PWIFE-714 adause, technically, should be called as a 'trigger'. All it usually does is to cause the hypothalamus to release a hormone, called oxytocin. Oxytocin on its behalf causes the release of prostaglandin, which causes uterine contractions. Uterine contractions cause this other hormone, called oxytocin, to cause release of prostaglandin. This whole thing is called 'triggering the labour process'. Based for its given name, it also triggers the release of prostaglandin, which causes the uterus to contract. This could also be considered as a trigger for the release of prostaglandin, which makes the uterus contract. Thus, this whole 'process' normally happens at the onset of first labor contractions, and it might also happen after a long period where a woman would have not experienced the first labour contractions yet.
