I don’t know that it’s becoming more common on some level.
I think what is happening is a US programmer was being getting on-call and working long hours and just expected to work jobs very as a routine to pay.
Now there’s a glimpse as being they realize although companies are not about for networking and speaking people well not just going out of their way to crack down to programmers.
You might see people being more like “this is not acceptable” and switching jobs more often rather than sticking it out for a few years.

Maybe programmers have a higher burnout rate than others because not everyone can do that work. Some people can’t program in their head all day and just want to do something else. Look at myself as an example, I’m able to write good programs automatically, but I don’t want to be a programmer for the rest of my life. I’ll just do that until I find something that I’m able to do much better.

I have no data to support this, but I would imagine that burnout rate, is higher because it’s a different type of stress in other professions. Programmers have to keep up with the times, not knowing what’s new, trying to figure out how to fix things etc. that could be very stressful.
